Samba RPM Packages for SUSE Linux Enterprise and openSUSE
=========================================================
Please consider all the software in these directories as some kind of test
releases of SUSE packages. The packages are distributed in the hope that they
will be useful, but WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY; without even the implied warranty of
MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. See the section 'How do
I get a newer version, patch, or bugfix for my SUSE Linux product' at the end.
Try the packages from this location if you encounter any issue with your
currently used Samba version.
Please check http://en.openSUSE.org/Samba for general information on Samba as
part of SUSE Linux Enterprise or openSUSE products, links to binary packages
of the most current Samba version, and a bug reporting how to.
YaST, yum, and smart installation sources
-----------------------------------------
The directory structure for 3.0 allows you to add the particular directory for
your SUSE product as an installation source. To add such a source you might
also point your preferred package installation tool to the suse-samba.repo
file available from each product version directory.
Package changes and mirrors
---------------------------
Check the changelog by rpm -qp --changelog samba-*.rpm for the last package
changes. The same content is in the {2.2,3.0}/src/samba.changes files.
These packages are signed with the PGP key id 0x414A57C3 available from the
pgp.net key servers at http://wwwkeys.pgp.net/ Alternatively download the key
http://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/samba/414A57C3-lmuelle-gpg-key.asc and import
it with 'rpm --import' to verify the authorisation of the RPMs.
Please use a mirror close to your site. A list of Samba.org mirrors is
available at http://Samba.org/ There choose a mirror at the right top
of the page.
There are also a bunch of SUSE mirrors. A list of mirror sites is
available at http://en.opensuse.org/Mirrors_Released_Version
Spec files and SUSE abbreviations
---------------------------------
We use a common spec files to generate spec files for the different SUSE Linux
versions. See the examples from the specreate directory.
All generated spec files have a suffix correspondig to the SUSE Linux version.
sle = SUSE Linux Enterprise (Server or desktop)
ul1 = UnitedLinux 1.0 (aka SLES 8)
The directories named 'factory' have packages for the currently developed
version of openSUSE.
Packages from the directory named 'pre' includes Samba.org pre and rc
releases. Be extra carefull with these.
How do I get a newer version, patch, or bugfix for my SUSE Linux product?

All these official updates are available for manual download and for the tools
as mentioned in the 'YaST, yum, and smart installation sources' section of
